Meet the Team

STEPHEN BLACK

Stephen joined Kleinwort Benson in June 2010, having enjoyed noted success as a private banker and the North East Regional Credit Specialist with Barclays Wealth. Stephen holds a Law degree, an MBA with distinction and has attended the Real Estate Management Program at Harvard Business School.

Having previously worked as a high end management consultant with the Ministry of Defence and numerous FTSE 100 companies before coming into the wealth management industry, Stephen’s strength lies in balancing the theory with the practical and presenting an investment strategy that communicates the complex in a way that is easy to understand.

Stephen primarily works with our high net worth clients to create bespoke investment solutions and also plays a strong role in creating innovative credit structures for both personal and commercial portfolios.

IAN MCELROY

Ian is a Senior Private Banker and joined Kleinwort Benson in 2010. He has vast experience in managing the financial affairs of affluent individuals and their families, charities and companies. Ian is a key member of a strong team at Kleinwort Benson in Manchester and is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment.

After graduating from Newcastle Business School with a First Class Honours degree in Finance in 2002, Ian joined Gerrard Investment Management as an Investment Manager before going on to enjoy notable success as a Private Banker at Barclays Wealth, holding the position of Vice President before his departure. As part of Ian’s academic background he holds the Securities and Investments Institute Diploma, recognised as one of the top qualifications within the Financial Services industry.

Away from the office Ian is a keen sportsman, and has played football at schoolboy, county and professional level in the past. As well as football, Ian is a big fan of rugby and golf. Outside of sport Ian enjoys reading and spending time with his family.

REBECCA MAKIN

Rebecca joined Kleinwort Benson in June 2010 from HSBC Private Bank where she assisted wealth managers in running portfolios of high net worth individuals. Before this Rebecca worked in Asset and Structured finance within HSBC’s head office in Canary Wharf.

After living in London for 7 years, Rebecca has moved back to Manchester to support the Kleinwort Benson regional team, focusing on organising events and developing new business opportunities.

Rebecca graduated with an honours degree in Linguistics from the University of Manchester. Outside of work she has a keen interest in horses and live music.
