Inflation up in November, ONS reveals

Inflation increased in November as a result of rises in the cost of clothing and food, it has been revealed.

New figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) showed the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) rose to 3.3 per cent from 3.2 per cent the previous month, above the government target of two per cent.

Meanwhile, Retail Prices Index (RPI) inflation climbed 0.2 percentage points to 4.7 per cent.

The ONS explained clothing prices jumped by two per cent, while the cost of food and non-alcoholic beverages expanded by 1.6 per cent.

Bread and cereal were up 1.9 per cent, the monthly report added, with charges for furniture, household equipment and maintenance rising by a record 1.6 per cent.

Last week, the Monetary Policy Committee decided to keep the rate of interest unchanged at 0.5 per cent and declined the opportunity to enter another round of quantitative easing.ADNFCR-2318-ID-800290062-ADNFCR
