Fund managers upbeat ahead of Euro elections

A new poll has been released in the run-up to the European elections by the Association of Investment Companies (AIC).

The study indicated that there are significant eurozone opportunities for private banking customers, engendered by the recent recovery in stock markets.

However, the elections themselves, which take place in June, were not seen by managers polled as being likely to move the markets.

Crispin Longden, manager of European Assets Trust, said: ’Post the elections it will be very much business as usual with little change expected in the make-up of the 736 members of the European Parliament.’

Jim Campbell and Francesco Conte, managers of the JPMorgan European Fledgeling Investment Trust, told the AIC that they remained upbeat on Europe’s prospects of recovery from the global financial crisis.

’During 2008 we were finding fewer companies we were interested in as financials did not look attractive,’ they said.

’However, in the last month we are finding a lot of well priced stock across Europe and have increased our gearing to capitalise on this.’ADNFCR-2318-ID-19185934-ADNFCR
