Media 'has great influence' over private wealth decisions

Those who are thinking about important private wealth management decisions have been warned not to be too influenced by the media.

Sarah Pennells, editor of SavvyWoman.co.uk, has said there is a growing number of people who turn to the internet to look for advice on what to do with their finances in the future.

She stated that while there are useful sources of information online that can offer valuable advice on retirement planning decisions or what to do with estates, people have to look carefully at the information.

"Have confidence that it is accurate - do those behind the website have any credibility? It's also worth checking if information is reviewed and updated regularly," Ms Pennells said.

Her comments could prove very valuable after Prudential revealed last month that 43 per cent of people have either solely used the internet or received no advice at all when deciding on their retirement plans.
