Panama offers high potential for real estate investment

Panama has been recommended for real estate investment from people with private wealth as this sector offers high potential with comparatively puny risks.

Such is the suggestion of Matt Landau, founder of ThePanamaReport.com, which is a travel and investment resource.

He gave some tips to those with private wealth considering real estate investment in Panama.

"Property title - as opposed to right of possession - is hugely important," Mr Landau said.

"It is also imperative to use a good lawyer and translator [as] most official documents in Panama are required to be in Spanish."

Panama's economy is also growing faster than any other in Latin America, with unemployment reaching record lows and the canal is in the process of expanding, he added.

Baring Asset Management recently recommended Latin America for private wealth investment, as US market volatility is unlikely to spread to the area.

Roberto Lampl, head of emerging market equities at Barings, said that Peru is currently performing well economically.
