40% of investors want to get involved with social investments

At least 42 per cent of Brits with private wealth want to get involved with ethical and social investment funds.

Such is the main finding of research by YouGov, undertaken as part of the UK's third National Ethical Investment Week.

It found that these investors want to make money and make a difference, with over a third wanting 25 per cent of their investments to include green and ethical considerations.

Another ten per cent want to get involved with social investments but are playing it safe by only donating a small proportion of their private wealth to green and ethical products.

The UK Sustainable Investment and Finance (UKSIF) are running National Ethical Investment Week and commissioned the research.

Penny Shepherd, chief executive of UKSIF, said: "This new research also shows how much the green and ethical investment market has grown up.

"From investments to insurance and Junior ISAs to pensions, there is now a wide breadth of green and ethical financial products available … there are many different ways to make a difference on social or environmental issues without sacrificing financial performance."

Research firm EIRIS recently revealed that social investment has reached a record £11.3 billion this year.
