SIB announces winning projects for social investment funding

The sixteen projects to benefit from the Social Action Fund have been announced by the Social Investment Business (SIB).

Over £9 million has been awarded to the social action projects, with the individual grants ranging from £100,000 to £2 million.

They focus on everything from support for teachers, to increased citizenship awareness and improvement of green spaces.

Jonathan Jenkins, chief executive of the SIB, said: "The energy and vision of applicants has been impressive and we are pleased to manage a Fund that finances ambitious, life-changing social action projects which will really make a difference and bring people together to improve the quality of life in their communities."

There will be a second window of funding, with applications set to close on February 3rd, 2012.

Last week, Mr Jenkins said that the SIB will look to raise larger investment funds of as much as £50 million if this first tranche of pilot funding turns out to be successful.
