London Stock Exchange highlights dip in trades

Equity trades transacted by the London Stock Exchange Group dipped slightly in June, new figures have revealed.

According to the organisation, which covers the London Stock Exchange and the Borsa Italiana in Milan, around 19.6 million trades to a value of £6.9 million were made last month.

This is an eight per cent decline in volumes from June 2008.

The value of trades have also suffered due to the extreme market volatility experienced over recent months, with the FTSE 100 dropping by over 30 per cent last year.

Meanwhile, contracts traded on EDX London and IDEM, the two derivatives markets owned by the London Stock Exchange Group, hit 7.7 million for June.

This is a decrease of 17 per cent from June 2008.

The notional value of the trades - £85 billion - is also 43 per cent down, year on year.

However, there was better news for trading on the group’s international order books, with volumes rising by 21 per cent.ADNFCR-2318-ID-19255740-ADNFCR
