Copenhagen 'important' for environmental investments

An investment expert has said that the Copenhagen summit will represent an ’important milestone’ for markets such as renewable energy and green fuels.

Ian Simm, chief executive of Impax Asset Management, was one of several industry specialists asked by the Association of Investment Companies (AIC) to share his views on environmental investments ahead of the meeting of world leaders in Denmark.

He claimed that alternative energy markets have ’grown much faster than the mainstream economy’ over the past ten years.

According to the AIC, the investment managers identified China as the key region for new energy markets.

Mr Simm said that markets for renewable energy technology, such as wind and solar power, can provide ’stable, long-term returns that can match the liabilities of institutional investors’.

He also noted the ’phenomenal’ pace of investment in the environmental markets of Asia.

The two-week Copenhagen summit begins on December 7th and is set to be one of the largest international gatherings of its kind ever seen.
