Treasury property investment review welcomed

A government consultation over the private-rented sector has been welcomed by a property market expert.

Ian Potter, operations manager at the Association of Residential Letting Agents (Arla), suggested that the Treasury review is a sign that recommendations are being taken on board.

Those planning to invest private wealth in property could benefit, as he explained that Arla has been campaigning for changes to be made to the stamp duty regime.

’A change to the structure of stamp duty would encourage vital investment into bulk portfolios - helping a part of the housing sector that is going to be pivotal to [recovery],’ he said.

Announcing the consultation this week, Exchequer secretary to the Treasury Sarah McCarthy-Fry highlighted the support that has been given to the housing sector in the recession.

However, she added that the private-rented sector has been affordable and flexible and the aim is to build on that success.ADNFCR-2318-ID-19597452-ADNFCR
