Investors 'should not focus solely on gold'

Investors need to ensure they do not focus entirely on gold when looking for an asset to purchase with their personal wealth.

This is according to senior investment adviser at Bestinvest Adrian Lowcock, who said that while the precious metal performed well last decade, buyers need to be ’more careful’ now.

’I certainly wouldn’t be chasing it for top performance,’ he remarked, adding that the gains seen in the price of the commodity recently mean it has got to the point where it is ’insanely valued’.

There is a risk that the price could become more volatile in the future, he warned, as speculators now have more control over the price and performance of the metal than they have had in the past.

He was commenting after Halifax research found precious metals were the best-performing asset class during the 2000s, with their value rising 242 per cent over the decade.ADNFCR-2318-ID-19663505-ADNFCR
