Televised debate results in sterling dip

The outcome of the televised election debate last night (April 15th) has caused the price of sterling to decline for those using their personal wealth to trade in the currency.

Leaders from the three main political parties discussed their polices live on air for the first time in British history, with polls suggesting Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg was the most popular of the trio.

In a Populus poll conducted for the Times immediately after the event, 61 per cent of respondents said Mr Clegg had won the debate.

This has heightened worries that the general election on May 6th will result in a hung parliament and Reuters reports the pound was down in morning trading as a result.

At 08:25 BST, it had slipped around 0.8 per cent on the day to $1.5366 against the dollar, while the euro climbed 0.3 per cent versus its British counterpart, taking it to 87.84p.ADNFCR-2318-ID-19725663-ADNFCR
