Funding commission attempts to boost social investment

Recommendations aimed at doubling social investment have been published in a report by the National Council for Voluntary Organisations.

Social investment makes up a large proportion of third sector funding and the release of the paper last week may be an attempt to shore up donation-dependent organisations struggling in the wake of the recession.

Other issues discussed include foundations and trusts, commercial sector support and individual giving.

Up to ten recommendations to secure the future of social investment are expected and the paper is the first to address this theme published by the commission.

Consultation with the voluntary sector will take place to discover whether broad agreement exists on the group’s findings, ThirdSector.co.uk reports.

The paper notes a ’discernable, if immature social investment market has developed in the UK over the last decade’ and suggests this will build sector capacity as well as financial security and access to capital. ADNFCR-2318-ID-19868663-ADNFCR
