IPOs 'on the rise' in European markets
Opportunities for those looking to invest their personal wealth may be set to increase this year, as PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) has predicted an increase in the number of European initial public offerings (IPOs) taking place in 2010.
The business services firm said that there was a ’distinct upturn in activity’ in this area during the final three months of last year and Richard Weaver, partner in PwC’s capital markets group, explained that the IPO markets on the continent are ’opening for business again’.
He added that there are ’clear signs’ of an increase, but observed that it is ’still very much a buyer’s market’.
PwC research showed that 61 IPOs took place on European exchanges between October and December, including one involving Polska Grupa Energetyczna - a Polish energy firm - that raised 1.45 million (£1.29 million).
Last month, Ernst & Young noted that a similar trend is also being seen on a global scale, with IPOs accelerating after a slow start to 2009.
