Hard work rewarded at Kleinwort Benson

20 May 2009

Kleinwort Benson has rewarded one of its trust directors for her outstanding performance in professional examinations.

Kristan Martin has been announced as the recipient winner of the bank’s David Prince Award in recognition of her achievements in the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) exams.

Not solely directed at exceptional achievers in professional qualifications, the in-house award is aimed at those members of staff who, for whatever reason, have to go the extra mile to complete professional qualifications – whether that be because of work-related or personal circumstances.

Mrs Martin was named "Guernsey STEP student of the year" for achieving the joint highest mark in the trust administration and accounts paper in the 2007/08 sitting.

However it was not just this achievement that made her stand out, according to Sandra Platts, Managing Director of Kleinwort Benson in Guernsey, who was on the panel of judges for the award.

"When Kristan was studying towards her STEP exams it was during a period of change in the Private Fiduciary team and staff members were under particular pressure with increased workloads. However it was Kristan’s approach to her and her team’s workloads and getting the job done, whilst at the same time never letting her studying slip, that made her the obvious choice for the David Prince Award.

"The fact that she gained top marks in one of her papers just shows the level of Kristan’s dedication and determination."

David Prince worked at Kleinwort Benson in Jersey for many years, during which time he held the position of Head of Private Fiduciary before moving on to become Head of Business Development.

In his final years Mr Prince was Head of Channel Island Training, where he did a tremendous amount of work in setting up the bank’s training initiatives, resulting in Kleinwort Benson  becoming the first financial organisation in the Channel Islands to win a National Training Award.

Sadly Mr Prince passed away in 1998. The David Prince Award was set up by Kleinwort Benson in his honour.
