Mexico embraces socially-responsible investment

Socially-responsible investment has received a boost with the news the Mexican Stock Exchange (BMV) is branching out into ethically-guided investment.

Experts in Responsible Investment Solutions (ERIS) announces it is to help the Central American nation develop a new sustainability index, one which will allow assessment of companies according to a range of socially-responsible investment criteria.

Due to be formally launched at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Cancun next month, factors such as corporate fiduciary and environmental awareness will come into play, as well as moral and ethical considerations in commercial decisions.

Executive director Peter Webster commented: "Stock exchanges have a key role to play in promoting sustainability, transparency and disclosure and we are delighted to be working with BMV on the development of its new index."

ERIS recently published a guide to promoting consideration of environmental, social and governance issues among exchange listed companies and its main points are likely to be used in assistance the BMV's socially-responsible investment index.  ADNFCR-2318-ID-800118579-ADNFCR
